CARTERTON
BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Competitions for the Club Fours and Larsen Cup were played on the Carterton green on Saturday, when the whole eight rinks were occupied, six by the men and two by lady bowlers. The green played well and the games throughout were keenly contested. Afternoon tea was presided over by Mrs Ron Daysh, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The following were the results:-— Holland, Colson, W. Steven, Tucker (s) beat E. Smith, G. Steven, Harris, Sorensen (s), 18/13; Dew, Hawker, Daysh, Harp (s) beat Nicholls, Sir Herbert Hart, Underhill, Martin (s), 27/13; A. Adams, A. E. Hall, McCarty, Stent (s) beat W. H. Smith, Heaven, DeLacey, Riggs (s), 24/17; Vaughan, Booth, Newbould, Barber (s) beat H. Dudson, Matson, Curtis. Barr (s), 25/17; E. H. , Smith, Pankhurst, W. Hart, Bain (s) beat Kilmistcr, Edwards, Johnson, Whyte (s), 18/17; Brown, McGimpsey, 'King, Hughan (s) drew with McPherson, IV. Hall, Hill, Simmonds (s). ’20720. Games in the Carterton Bowling Club's competitions played during last week were won by the following:— Champion singles: Pankhurst beat Daysh, 25/10; Edwards beat W. H. Hall, 20/12. Champion pairs: Newbould and Sorensen (s) beat King and Harp (s), 18/8; Beaven and Simmonds (s') beat Colson and Martin (s), 31/16. Colts’ singles:. W. H. Smith beat McGimpsey, 27/11; Tinsley beat Dew, 19/18. . „_____, SALVATION ARMY YOUNG PEOPLE'S ANNIVERSARY. The Young ■ People’s anniversary meetings held in the Salvation Army Hall, Carterton, yesterday, proved interesting. The children’s singing was excellent. Interesting items were given by Margaret Philip, Sadie Stunt, Ethel Dewe, Beryl Fairbrother, Bobby Eagle, and Kelven Stretton. Scripture passages were read by Sadie Stunt, ; Leo Lyster and Maurice Stunt. Child- ' ren from Clareville also pleased with - their singing. A trio by Margaret Kennedy, Ann and Mary Stunt and a duet ’ by Iris Edwards and Norma Lyster were sweetly sung. During the after- 1 noon the presentation of prizes took I place. c About twenty-six Cradle Rolls with A fourteen primary prizes were given out. 1
The Home League secretary, Mrs Leighton, and Sister Mrs Fairbrother Senr., conducted all meetings. Their, .pratical illustrated Bible instruction was readily understood and grasped by youthful minds. , Tonight at’7.45 o’clock there will be a programme of musical items and the presentation of senior prizes will take place. Borough Council. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held tomorrow night. Scout Cubs’ Card Party. The card party held on Saturday evening in aid of the Scout Cub troupe was well attended. The prizes were won as follows:- —Ladies, Mrs Paterson 1, Mrs Hooper 2; men, Mrs Clayton 1 and Messrs C. Holland and A. Knutson, equal 2. Accident While Eel Fishing. While eel fishing in the Maungaterere Stream at the weekend, W. Hemi, aged 13 years, trod on a broken bottle in the water and received a very bad cut on one foot. He was attended by Dr Morton and was afterwards taken to the Greytown Hospital. Personal Items, Mrs E. Fletcher, of Belvedere Street, was admitted to the Greytown Hospital on Saturday. Seaman Colin Callister, son of Mr and Mrs A. H. Callister, Brooklyn Road, Carterton, will be the guest of honour at the Belvedere schoolroom on Friday next.
