MASS DEMONSTRATION

IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE AGAINST MOSLEY RELEASE HOME SECRETARY SUPPORTED BY CABINET (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, November 28. A crowd ofs3C,ooo persons gathered in Trafalgar Square this afternoon for a mass demonstration against the release of Mosley. An effigy of Mosley was hung from a mock gibbet, mounted on a horsedrawn cart. Factory workers carried hundreds of banners and placards demanding Mosley’s reinternment. One poster bore a drawing of a large rat with the words: “Battersea’s Rat Campaign —put this rat back in gaol.” A coffin bearing a swastika and the words: “Mosley, hero of Holloway. Smash Fascism now,” was placed on the base of the Nelson Column. The crowd signed a petition demanding Mosley's return to prison and stating that “his release is an insult to the men and women of the Fighting Seiwices.” The petition will be taken to the House of Commons by Mr Pritt, M.P.. chairman of the demonstration. In the unlikely event of a division, the Government seems to be assured of a majority when the House of Commons debates Mosley's release at its next sittings. Cabinet is fully behind Mr Morrison who ordered the release.
