INTERHOUSE WEEKEND

GALA DANCE ON SATURDAY NIGHT PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. YESTERDAY’S ATTRACTIONS. A series of entertainments were held by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association during the week-end, as additional attractions to the marching display and sports in the Park on Saturday afternoon.

The American Red Cross hall in Queen Street was packed to the doors on Saturday night, when a gala dance was held and the presentation of trophies took place. Mr G .H. Mackley, M.P., presented the trophies. The music for the dancing was played by the Trentham dance band, and extras were contributed by Miss B. Hawke and the Thorne brothers. Messrs L .Askew and J. Bruce were capable M’s.C. Miss Pam Walker contributed vocal items. Supper was served in relays by the girls’ teams. The chairman of the interhouse executive expressed appreciation of the work of the coaches and the firms who sponsored the teams, and thanked all who had assisted. Mr Neal, custodian of the club, had given every assistance, and the Interhouse Association was grateful to the American Red Cross authorities for the use of the building. In the Masterton Park yesterday afternoon, an excellent musical programme and a ceremonial retreat was presented by the Trentham Military Band. There was a large attendance of the public. There was a large and appreciative audience in the Regent Theatre last night, when the Trentham Military Band and assisting artists presented a splendid entertainment. In addition to the band ,the following artists assisted:—Miss Phoebe Lawson, Miss Gee (W.A.A.F.), Miss Pam and Rex Walker, Bandsman Lynch and Gunner Harboard. The chairman of the executive committee thanked the theatre management and staff for their co-operation, Captain Pike, of the Trentham Military Band, and the band members of the concert party, and people who had kindly arranged billets for the visitors, and the R.S.A. gatekeepers for their help on Saturday and yesterday. Reference was made to the splendid work of the secretary, Mr V. G. Davis.
