The Paris radio’s military commentator, Jean Paquis, stated: “It is believed on good authority that the British and Americans are about to take a jump across the channel and come to grips with the armoured backbone of the European forces. Maps of France, iron rations for two days, lifebelts and medical packs have already been issued to American troops and 'army equipment has been massed in the southern ports of the British Isles.”
