Major (Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) Seagrim, of the Green Howards, who was posthumously awarded the V.C. for outstanding valour during the attack on the Mareth Line. Under intense fire ,Colonel Seagrim placed himself at the head of his battalion, helped a team place the scaling ladder, and was the first to cross the anti-tank ditch. He led the assault and captured the objective, allowing the main attack to develop. He died of wounds.
