SAMOS GARRISON

BRITISH & GREEK TROOPS ALL WITHDRAWN TOGETHER WITH SOME ITALIANS AND GREAT PART OF CIVILIAN POPULATION. EXPOSURE OF GERMAN LIES. LONDON, November 23. The Allied garrison of the Aegean island of Samos has been withdrawn. A Middle East communique states, that all the British and Greek troops and some of the Italian troops on the island have been evacuated without loss. A considerable proportion of the civilian population has also been withdrawn. Allied forces continue to harass the enemy in I;he Aegean Sea. In the House of Commons the De-puty-Prime Minister (Mr Attlee) said 'a Government statement on the occupation of the Dodecanese Islands would be made at the next sitting. It is now clear that a report by the Berlin radio alleging the capitulation of the Samos garrison, “at the initiative of about 3,500 British soldiers” was devoid of truth.
