Dr. Helen Cowie, who has been visiting the South Island, has returned to Masterton.
Miss J. Cooper, Renall Street, Masterton, is staying at Paraparaumu Beach with Mrs H. McLaren.
The death occurred at Pahiatua on Sunday of Mr John George, a well known resident, at the age of 88 years. Mr Charles Perry and Miss Alma Perry, of Worksop Road, Masterton, returned home yesterday after a holiday visit to Napier.
The engagement is announced of Shelia Crawford, third daughter of Mr and the late Mrs S. C. Pinkerton, of Akura Road, Masterton, and Frederick Horace, eldest son of Mrs F. E. Sanders, of Coromandel. A motion of sympathy with the Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, and his sister, Miss O’Hara Smith, in the death of their mother was carried at last night’s meeting of the Masterton Borough Council. Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, acting-secre-tary of the New Zealand, Town Clerks’ Association, was granted leave of absence by the Masterton Borough Council last night to attend the annual conference at Napier on February 22.
Mr P. M. Butler, who has been secretary of the New Zealand Labourers’ Federation for.the past 14 years, has indicated his intention of resigning that position. His resignation is to take effect immediately after the annual conference of the federation, which is to be held at Christchurch this week. Mr Butler intends to concentrate his efforts in respect to the Wellington, Nelson, Westland and Marlborough Union, of which he is also secretary.
