VICHY BROADCAST
MARSHAL PETAIN BROUGHT TO MICROPHONE. REPORTS OF ILL HEALTH RIDICULED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright! (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m.) LONDON, November 22. The Petain mystery was deepened when the Vichy radio, after the Berlin, radio’s announcement that a heart attack had prevented him broadcasting on November 13, brought him to the microphone. Marshal Petain, in a clear, strong voice, said: “I have only learned from the newspapers that I am ill. "Some sources say I cannot walk; others that I am paralysed.” Then Petain and all present began '4o laugh. An announcer remarked that Marshal Petain’s visitors were “struck by his healthy appearance.”
