A new South African Farmers’ Association has been formed —in Italy! News of it was broadcast from London by Cyril Watling in the 8.8.C.’s weekly “News from South Africa” programme for Springboks serving abroad. The members of this new farm group are men of Tobruk —Springboks captured there and now in Italian prison camps. One of the organisers is a well known cattle breeder from the Cape, Mr. C. de Jager. The members hold regular meetings and lectures are given by agricultural experts. That the discussions are serious is shown by one of the last resolutions, which was sent home to South Africa. It was a request for more railways to serve the farming areas of the Union; accompanied by an inquiry as to when income tax is likely to be reduced!
