SATURDAY’S GAMES . /' PARK CLUB NEW ZEALAND v OVERSEAS MATCH The weather was fine on Saturday for the New Zealand versus Overseas match, in which twelve teams participated. Two games of 15 ends each were played and again the New Zealanders proved victorious, winning 7-1 games (186 points) to their opponents’ 4| (158 points). The next round to decide the holders of the Daniell Cup will be played early in the new year. Results are as follow (N.Z. players mentioned first):—lst game, Rossiter, Heath. Dixon beat P. Smith, Newton, Ferguson, 18/14. Second game,. Osborne lost to Carr, 13/18: H. Smith beat Wallace. 16/8; F. Dixon beat Ferguson, 20/10; Carstens beat Shearer, 17/11; O’Donnell lost to Taylor, 10/17; Kilgour beat Trevorrow, 17/12. The tea arrangements were in the capable hands of Mrs C. Andrews and helpers. MASTERTON CLUB NIELSEN TROPHY CONTEST The weather was perfect on Saturday when the Masterton Bowling Club played for the Nielsen trophy donated by Mr W. Nielsen, the club’s patron. Excellent bowling, on greens that left nothing to be desired, and 'a friendly rivalry made for a most enjoyable time and augured well for the club’s season now entered upon. The results of the Nielsen trophy games were as follow:—First round, Kerslake, de Castro, Holdsworth, Hunter (s) lost to Freeman, Dickason, Palamontain, Hayne (s), 13/19; Lewis, Stempa, Hearle, Morton (s) lost to Price, Henson, Stewart, Stubbings (si, 11/12; McKay, Hyde, Doughty, Evans (s) beat Greenwood, J. Douglas, J. Skeet, Christian (s), 14/12; Daniell, Plant, — Thomas, Roberts (s) lost to Blane, Haycraft, Chapman, E. J. Reid. 20/6; Bassett, N. Skeet, Bain, Gordon (s) beat Lane, Steele, Weller, Russell (s), 13/6; Murdock, Fletcher, Henderson, Finlayson (s) beat Graham, Vennell, A. Hendry, O. Jones (s), 10/7; Denbee, Pither, Hughes, Davies (s) beat Clayson, Reynolds. Irvine, Mills (s), 11/8.
Second round: Hunter beat Jones, 19/10; Mills lost to Morton, 10/13; Evans lost to Hayne. 8/22; Roberts beat Stubbings, 11/8; Gordon lost to Christian, 8/13; Finlayson beat Reid. 20/9; Davies beat Russell, 18/15. Third round: Hunter lost to Russell. 16/18; Morton lost to Jones, 8/11; Evans beat Mills, 11/8; Roberts beat Hayne. 11/10; Gordon lost to Stubbings, 8/20; Finlayson lost to Christian, 10/11; Davies beat E. J. Reid, 14/13. The winners were Davies’s team with three wins.
Twenty-three sets of bowls were forwarded to Wellington during the weekend to be officially tested, and it is anticipated that they will be returned about Thursday ox’ Friday.
The draw for the club’s championship games is on the club’s board, and it is expected that when the bowls have been returned from testing a start will be made to play some of the matches.
