SCOUTS AND CUBS

ST. MATTHEW’S TROOP. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. There was a large attendance of parents, Scouts and Cubs at the Scout Den on Saturday evening for the St. Matthew’s Troop birthday party. The Den was decorated with greenery and flags, the work of the Cubmasters under Miss D. Hubbard, D.C.M. A splendid programme of short sketches and other items was given by Cubs, Scouts and Scouters, and all present enjoyed a sing-song round the camp fire, led by A.S.M. E. Jaine. At the conclusion of the programme, Archdeacon E. J. Rich thanked parents for showing their interest in the movement by attending in such good numbers, and congratulated the boys on their work and entertainment. He referred to the considerable amount of work done in restoring the Den since the earthquake, and thanked all who had helped with work and given financial assistance. Supper* was served by the Ladies’ Committee and Scouters. A happy gathering concluded with “Taps” and the pronouncing of the Benediction.
