CARTERTON SALE LATE RATES FOR FAT SHEEP Messrs Wright, Stephenson & Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Carterton sale yesterday:—A fair yarding came forward. The fat sheep were of exceptionally good quality and sold at late rates. Store sheep made good values. In the cattle section a few springing cows were offered and met with fairly good competition. Fat cows were not quite as firm but nevertheless prices were on a high level. Stores sold well. Several pens of yearling dairy heifers were offered and changed hands at ruling rates. Baconers and porkers sold at last week’s level and weaners and slips were very firm. The following are prices:— Sheep: Fat shorn wethers, 26s 6d to 27s Id. Fat lambs (light weights), 21s 6d. Fat shorn ewes, 15s to 17s 6d (unfinished) 9s 6d. Fat woolly wethers, 38s. Fat woolly hoggets, 29s 4d. W. wether hoggets, 28s. Ewes with lambs at foot, 13s to 17s, all counted. Woolly ewe hoggets (very good), 34s 4d. Shorn w. hoggets, 18s 6d. Cattle: Springing cows, £9 10s to £l2. Cows in milk, £7 to £9 10s. Spr. heifers, £7 5s to £8 6s. 2-year dairy heifers, £5 to £6. Yr., dairy heifers, £5 to £6 10s for the best, smaller £4 to £4 15s. Fat cows, £6 to £7 ss. Fwd. condition cows, £4 5s to £5. Store cows, £2 18s to £3 10s. Cull cows, 20s to 13s. Pigs: Baconers, £3 15s to £4 12s. Porkers, £2 10s to £3 ss. Slips, 35s to £2 6s. Weaners, to 345. Fowls and a few sundries sold well.
