MOVE INTO BURMA
CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD FROM ASSAM AMERICAN TRAINED CHINESE TROOPS (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) NEW DELHI. November 18. American trained and equipped Chinese troops, advancing in front of American units, who are constructing a supply road from Assam to the Burma Road, have penetrated 20 to 30 miles farther into Burma since they first moved on October 26, says a communique from General Stilwell’s Headquarters. They hold the north banks of the Tarung and Chindwin rivers and have occupied several Upper Chindwin villages and driven the Japanese out of several positions. A Chungking message states that the Chinese announce unabated fighting on the central China front, with heavy casualties on both sides. The Chinese repulsed a Japanese counter-attack north-west of Yochow, in Hunan Province.
