WOMEN’S DIVISION

WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE MEETING IN MASTERTON YESTERDAY REMIT FOR DOMINION CONFERENCE A meeting of the Wairarapa executive of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in Masterton yesterday. Mrs K. Groves presided over a full and representative attendance. A letter was received from the Dominion president asking for financial support for the equipping of the new rest homes at Nelson and Waimate. Mrs Barrel - reported that in her recent tour of Taranaki she had found enthusiasm among the branches for the rest home project. The Hurworth branch, with 17 members, had already 'subscribed 9 guineas. The following remit for the next W.D.F.U. conference was passed: “That when the promised Royal Commission on liquor laws is set up it should remove the profit motive from the liquor traffic.” Mrs O’Brien said the Martinborougl} branch would hold its 45th birthday party on February 17 and issued an invitation to women’s division members to attend. Instead of having a birthday cake as usual, it was the practice of branches to have soldiers’ cakes already in tins which are drawn for in the name of overseas soldiers and are ready for dispatch to the winners. ■_ I . The meeting concluded with the extending of general good wishes for the Christmas season and a vote of thanks to Mi’s Groves.
