INVASION OF EUROPE

ALLIED MASTER PLAN. GREATEST WAR UNDERTAKING OF ALL TIME. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, November 16. The Allies have a master plan for ' invasion of Europe which would set in ' motion what may be the greatest military undertaking of all time, said Lieu-tenant-General Devers, commander of the United States forces in Britain. He was explaining to 3000 people in southwestern England who must leave their homes before December 20 why their land was needed. Military demands have shifted, he said, and now preparation must be made in detail for attack. “Training areas are being taken over for preparations for European invasion,” said General Devers. “No military operation is more dependent on training than a landing on stronglyfortified hostile shores. To win a bridgehead and expend as few lives as possible in doing so, the training must be realistic and under actual fire, which requires sizeable areas free of civilians. This training is needed for developing the balance and co-ordination of the master plan. What can be accomplished in these-areas could mean the difference between success and disaster for the Allied plan of operation.”
