Mrs Sturtevant, Taumaranui, is the guest of Mrs N. Irwin, Pownall Street, Masterton.
Mrs A. P. Bennett, Essex Street, Masterton, has returned from a visit to Wellington. On account of continued ill-health, Mr W. I. Armstrong, a member of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, has been granted leave of absence until next May. Mr and Mrs W. Voss, of Tinui, announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Grace Evelyn, to David, youngest son of Mr and Mrs E. H. Schofield, “Peach Grove,” Tinui. The death occurred at Lower Hutt, on Saturday, of Mr Michael Jospeh Hurley, father of the Rev. Father P, V. Hurley, last heard of at his station- in Manila, in the Philippines. Mr Hurley, who was 74 years of age, spent the greater part of his life in Australia, where he was associated with the staffs of several well-known warehouses. He came to New Zealand about 17 years ago- .
One of Wellington’s best-known business men, Mr Harry Moss, managing director of the firm of H. W.- Moss, Ltd., died in Wellington on Monday night. Mr Moss, who was 78 years of age, started his business career on the West Coast of the South Island by entering the service of the Bank of New South Wales at Greymouth. He remained in the service of the bank till he joined the staff of Johnston and Co., Ltd., Wellington, with whom he served for 38 years. He founded the firm of H. W. Moss, Ltd., tobacco merchants and indent agents, 19 years- ago, and was managing director of the firm till he became ill three months ago. The late Mr Moss was a brother of Mrs H. B. Dyer, formerly of Masterton, and now living in Tauranga.
