SIMILAR PROBLEMS
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. MR. S. G. HOLLAND’S TOUR. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) MELBOURNE, November 15. The similarity of Australian and New Zealand problems has impressed Mr S. G. Holland. Leader of the New Zealand Opposition, who is visiting Melbourne. New Zealand’s manpower problem is similar to Australia’s, he said. A solution cannot be delayed, as it is impossible for New Zealand to maintain its present military commitments and at the same time increase production to the extent required. Since his arrival in Melbourne last week, Mr Holland has had discussions with the Prime Minister, Mi’ Curtin, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Menzies. and other public men. From these discussions he is convinced that Australia and New Zealand must reach a common understanding and common approach to the future control of the Pacific.
A regular exchange of opinion on this problem is the most pressing concern, he says. Such interchanges should be made by representatives of all parties and not merely of the parties at present in power. Mr Holland leaves on Tuesday for Adelaide.
