GREYTOWN COUNCIL LIBRARY INCREASING IN POPULARITY. SUPPORT FOR AIR TRAINING CORPS. ("Times- Age’ ’ Special.) The monthly meeting of the Grey- { town Borough Council was held last night, there being present: Mr A. iV. Horton (Mayor), Councillors W. A. Tate, I. Blissett, A. Stuart, E. Balfour, G. F. Eagar, F. Wood and FI. McKenna. An apology for absence was received from Councillor H. C. Trotman. j The Library Committee reported that 91 new books had been added to the library, and 16 to the children’s section. There were twenty-eight new subscribers, and six had left. It had been decided that visitors be charged 10s deposit which would be refunded when the last book was returned. The library was now quartered upstairs in the Council Chambers and was proving most satisfactory. The Mayor expressed appreciation of the work done by the committee during the past year. It was decided that the council would not send a delegate to the Municipal Conference. The Mayor stated he would be unable to attend the conference. Councillor Balfour asked- if the grass at the cemetery could be cut. The whole place was getting overgrown. Councillor Farley stated that it was a question of funds. The Cemetery Committee was asked to report on the matter at the next meeting. On the motion of the Mayor a letter of thanks for his services is to be forwarded to Inspector Ansel, who has been transferred to Petone. Flight Lieutenant Steadman, of the Air Training Corps, wrote asking the council’s co-operation in the formation of a section at Greytown. The council agreed to assist in the project. The Wairarapa Automobile Association wrote stating that it had been reported that difficulty was being experienced in obtaining the key of the building at the camping ground. It was decided that the key be left at Nichol’s garage in future. The Wairarapa Hospital Board wrote stating that the E.P.S. medical supplies and equipment were to be kept ready for any emergency, and that an inspection would be made of the equipment held at Greytown.
