STRATEGIC AIM
DESTRUCTION OF ENEMY ARMIES IN VAST SOUTHERN SALIENT. ANTICIPATION OF SHATTERING BLOW. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 15. In the past 24 hours Red Army forces have been moving up for an assault against Korosten, another of the main German bases on the main lateral railway beyond Kiev. By last night the Russians were within 15 miles of the town and were clearing the approaches by one swift blow after another. South-east of Kiev the Russians are fighting against heavy German coun-ter-attacks. The Russians’ strategic plan is for the outflanking and final destruction of the German forces to the south, says the Moscow correspondent of the “News Chronicle,” and so far every blow has fallen logically as a part of that mas-ter-plan. The German forces the strung out in a vast salient from the western Ukraine down to the Dnieper bend, and at any moment the Russians may strike 'down toward these positions in an attempt to cut off the communications to the west. Such a movement may have begun. The Berlin radio today declared that the Russians had opened an expected great new offensive., in., the.. Dnieper bend between Zaporozhe and the area north-north-west of Krivoi Rog. The Russians brought up 30 divisions for the attack. The radio added that the Red Army scored a number of local penetrations, for which they had to pay dearly. The battles were still raging late last night.
