BATTLE ON LEROS

GERMANS FREELY USING DIVE=BOMBERS DEFENDING TROOPS WITHOUT FIGHTER COVER. FIERCE FIGHTING REPORTED. LONDON, November 12. Fierce fighting continues on the island of Leros, in the Dodecanese, about 90 miles north-west of Rhodes. There is no indication that the Germans are attempting to supplement with seaborne troops their detachments landed from the sea, but the Luftwaffe is supporting the attack with a full use of dive-bombers. As the British and Italian troops are without fighter cover, the defence of the island is becoming difficult.
