AT GERMAN RAILWAY COMMUNICATIONS NIGHT & DAY BOMBING ATTACKS ON FRENCH RIVIERA LINE LONDON, November 12. Less than 24 hours after the entrance to the Mont Cenis tunnel had been attacked by Bomber Command formations, other home-based bombers struck at the main railway to Italy along the French Mediterranean coast. The principal target last night was the railway centre at Cannes, in the French Riviera, and the attack was heavy and concentrated. There was a bright moon and no clouds and only slight opposition was met with from the German coastal defences. The main railway lines could be seen clearly by the air crews and the selected targets had been lighted by Pathfinders for the following bombers. Pilots report that their high-explosive and incendiary bombs were placed with excellent effect. Only a few hours earlier the same railway had been attacked in daylight by American bombers based, in North Africa. Mosquito bombers from Britain were over Berlin, Hanover and the Ruhr last night. Mines were laid in-enemy waters. Seven bombers and one fighter are missing.
