To Main North-South Railway INCREASING PRESSURE ALSO ON ENEMY l IN WHITE RUSSIA GERMAN POSITION IN CRIMEA BECOMING MORE CRITICAL LONDON, November 12. A Russian force advancing west of Kiev has captured a town only 16 miles distant from Jitomir, an important junction on the main railway running south to the Black Sea at Odessa. Other Russian columns are driving west towards this railway on a front of 60 miles. An earlier report, not yet confirmed, said the Russian spearhead was within 10 miles of Jitomir. A Moscow communique states that in their latest advance . the Soviet forces in the Ukraine have captured over 100 inhabited places. Significance is attached to the progress being made by the attacking Soviet forces at both ends of the White Russian front. Red Army gains in the difficult Pripet Marsh country are endangering the position of the Germans north at Gomel, on the east bank of the Dnieper. The position of the enemy in the Crimea is reported to be becoming rapidly more critical.
