Mr Charles Coradine, of Balclutha, is visiting Masterton.

Mrs T. Cunningham, Pownall Street, Masterton, is visiting Palmerston North. Mrs Stanley Lamb, Essex Street, has returned from a short visit to Wellington.

The death occurred at Wanganui on Thursday of Mr Robert Mitchell, formerly of “Moeraki,” Hinakura.' The funeral of the late Mr Malcolm Smith took place in Masterton yesterday afternoon. The services at the Chapel and graveside were conducted by Captain H. Sutcliffe, C.A. A num-. ,ber*of wreaths were received, among them being one from the staff of the Bank of New Zeaalnd and one from, the management and staff of the State Theatre. The pall-bearers were Messrs J J. Hunter, A. E. Prentice (R.S.A.), A. McPherson, E. J. Heffer, J. Smith and S. Akoorie.

Some three years ago, when Major Lovelock, Pahiatua’s Town Clerk, volunteered for service with the Armed Forces, his place was filled temporarily by Mr A. W. Hamilton. Major Lovelock has now been discharged from service overseas and proposes to resume his duties on December 1 next. However, Mr Hamilton, who has accepted another appointment in the town, asked to be relieved from November 19, and Mr Lovelock will take over his duties from that'date. At the residence of Mrs J. G. Wingate, Masterton, yesterday afternoon, Mrs David McNeur was the guest at a farewell gathering. Items were contributed by Mesdames Morton, Robert Miller and Miss Maddever (Wellington). Mrs R. C. Drummond, on behalf of those present, made a presentation to Mrs McNeur and spoke of the happy association they had had with Mrs McNeur in furthering the work of the church. Good wishes were expressed for the future of Rev. and Mis McNeur. Mrs McNeur suitably responded.
