COUNTRY DISTRICTS.
MEETING OF SUB-CENTRE.
A meeting of the Country Districts’ Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society was held on Wednesday in Masterton. Mrs A. C. Gawith presided over a good attendance, including country representatives from Rangitumau, Bideford, Wangaehu and Kaituna. Several donations were handed in, including £2O from the Rangitumau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, for which thanks were expressed. The donations were put into a fund for the sick and wounded. It was decided to forward £lO 10s to the usual quarter for the provision of Christmas cheer for soldiers.
The following goods have been completed and forwarded to the Centre: 81 garments, 5 pullovers with sleeves, 1 sleeveless pullover, 20 covers and 6 pairs of pyjamas'. It was hoped to enter a V.A team for the Registered Nurses’ Cup competition. The Sub-Centre arranged for nospital visitors for the next three months, while it is in recess.
It was reported that the Red Cross Society’s papier mache circle had been busy making and dressing dolls, and that the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-op-erative Association had granted it the use of a window for a display which would also include samples of all of its work.
