DAYLIGHT ATTACKS

MADE BY STRONG ALLIED AIR FORCES ON GERMANY & OCCUPIED'" TERRITORY MUNSTER AND CHERBOURG BOMBED LONDON, November 11. Many hundreds of British, American and Allied aircraft took part in extended attacks on Germany and occupied territory today. The principal target was Munster, in Western Germany, which was attacked by Flying Fortresses, escorted by Thunderbolt and Lightning fighters. At least 18 German fighters were shot down, ten by the bombers and eight by the escorting aircraft. Four of the Allied bombers failed to return. Several hundred Spitfires escorted Marauder bombers which attacked the Cherbourg area. Two of the very few German fighters encountered were shot down. Other attacks were made by Boston, Mitchell and Typhoon bombers, escorted by United Nations fighters. In all these operations the Allies Tost six fighters and four bombers. The total German loss was 22 fighters.
