ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the W.C.T.U. was presided over by Miss Tankersley. Mrs Jansen led devotions, reading a portion of the 10th chapter Epistle to the Romans. The Temperance fact was read by the secretary as follows: “It is my professional opinion after observation of many years in the practice of medicine, that beer is doing more harm tb humanity than all other alcoholics.”—Dr. Gilbert Dain, Chicago. A report of the District Convention held in October at Wellington was read.

After the tea interval the annual reports were read and adopted. Mrs Major Dick conducted the election of officers which resulted in Miss Tankersley being returned as president, Mrs Vennell treasurer, Mrs Speight recording secretary, Mrs Kitchener correspondence secretary, Mrs Taylor C.R. superintendent,, and Mrs Jansen as Evangelistic superintendent. At the invitation- of Mrs H. Speight it was decided to hold the December meeting at her residence, No. 7 Johnstone Street.
