GREAT EFFORT
TO ACHIEVE EARLY DEFEAT OF GERMANY. ANTICIPATED BY BRITISH WRITER. (Special P.A. Correspondent.) LONDON, November 8. The Allies are making a supreme effort to beat Germany within the next six months, comments the military correspondent of the “Daily Express.” He points out, (1) that Kiev, in terms of strategy, is the Red Army’s greatest victory; (2) that by crossing the Garigiiano and Trigno Rivers, General Alexander can greatly speed up his advance on Rome, in the fight for which it may now be possible to defeat Rommel’s forces so decisively that the way to the River. Po will be easy; (3) that Marshal Stalin has categorically stated that the second front will not now be long; and (4) that the American “Army and Navy Journal” stated that the second front may be opened sooner than is expected and that General Marshall may shortly be leaving Washington to take up the command in London. The correspondent thinks it can be taken for granted that General Marshall will be in supreme command of the forces. invading western Europe, and adds: “Tides and weathei' would a short time ago have cut out mass invasion of western Europe before next April, but with the newer development in landing craft, amphibious operations employing hundreds of thousands of men may now be possible all the year round.
