Mrs T. W. Wardell, Te Whiti, has returned from a visit to Auckland. Miss Evans, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs W. ■G. Lamb, Herbert Street, Masterton.
The engagement is announced of Christina Elizabeth, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr H. Walkley, Levin, to Claude Broughton, younger son of the late Mr and Mrs G. B. Kyngdon, New Plymouth. Mr J. A. Marshall, who, prior 'to leaving on overseas service, wab a member of the Masterton County Council’s permanent staff, has advised the council that he did not intend to rejoin the staff as he was taking up farming. The resignation was received with regret and good wishes were expressed for his future. The death is reported from Toowoomba, Queensland, of Mr M. L. Reading, at the age of 74 years. Mr Reading was a son of the late Mr and Mrs W. Reading, Napier. He entered journalism in Feilding at an early age, and later became associate editor of the “New Zealand Times” and editor of the “Lyttelton Times.” In 1924 he went to Australia as editor of the Brisbane “Telegraph,” a position he occupied for 12 years. At the time’of his death he was living in retirement. His wife died a few days earlier while visiting her husband in hospital.
