ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) P.G. Bro. W. McPherson presided over a fair attendance of members of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge last evening. A vote of condolence .was passed to Mrs Wallis and her son in their recent bereavement. Sick pay, £lO 10s, and accounts £126 3s 2d, were passed for payment. A letter from Bro. S. J. King, who is serving with the forces overseas, was read. He thanked members for the parcel which he had received, and mentioned he had met many members of the Order from various parts of New Zealand. He received the “Times-Age” regularly from home and had been able to keep up with news concerning Carterton and the district generally. The District Secretary wrote that the next District Conference would be held cn March 4, and inviting nominations for district offices. Nominations for office for the ensuing term were received as follows: — N.G., Sister M. E. Eagle; V.G., Bro. J. Lenihan; Warden, Bros. A. J. Lindop and H. J. Rathbone. It was resolved to make a levy of Is per member per quarter to cover expenses in connection with the war members fund, the first payment to be made in the November quarter. WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE MEETING OF AUXILIARY A committee meeting of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Monday, there being present Mesdames H. E. Ordish (in the chair), W. H. Hall, M. King, Miss O. W. Wolters and Mrs F. L. Barr. The president notified the committee that the Cycling Corps would hold a special meeting on Thursday. It was considered most satisfactory that five more applications had been received for the women’s land service. Advice has been received from headquarters that a record had recently been completed by the Army Department of stocks of nets held by camouflage sections in New Zealand, and as it is considered that there are sufficient available to meet the estimated requirements, th 9 e manufacture of nets organised through the W.W.S.A. may, now be discontinued. The Army Department desired to place on record its appreciation of the work done by the W.W.S.A. in voluntary organising and making camouflage nets during a period when they were urgently required, which has been an important and direct contribution to the wai’ effort. Personal Items. Mr Geo. Moorcock, who is employed at the Belvedere cheese factory, was cleaning the cream separator when part of it fell on his left foot, severing the nail from his big toe and otherwise injuring the foot. Two members of the N.Z. Navy N. Jensen and A. Manley, are visiting Carterton. Mr and Mrs W. L. DeLacey, of Remuera, are visitors to Carterton, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs Lenihan. Mr Geo. James, borough foreman, left yesterday for Christchurch, where he will spend his annual holiday. Bowling. The competition for the Booth Cup and Duthie Shield will commence on Saturday next. The arrangement this season is that Masterton, Park and Carterton will compete as a northern section, and Greytown, Featherston and Martinborough as a southern section. The winner of each section will play cfl in the final. Armistice Day. Members of the Carterton branch of the R.S.A. and the public are invited to attend a ■ service at the Cenotaph, Memorial Square, Carterton, at 11 o'clock on Thursday morning. Burglary at Regent Theatre. On Sunday night the Regent Picture Theatre was entered by a burglar, a door being forced open. Only a few shillings were taken. Post Office Buildjng. Good progress is being made by the contractor with the dismantling of Carterton’s Post Office, and by the end of this month the work should be nearly completed in readiness for the erection of an up-to-date building.
