HUTT RAILWAY SMASH
DEATH OF THIRD VICTIM TREATMENT OF INJURED. SPEEDY HELP BY AMERICANS AND OTHERS. ’’ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Besides the two women who were killed instantly in the railway smash on the Hutt line near Haywards, yesterday morning, a third victim died in the Wellington Hospital at 9.40 o’clock last night. Excellent work was carried out in attending to the victims by a number of doctors, nurses, and others, including doctors, nurses, and orderlies, with a full field equipment, from a United States naval hospital, a few miles from the scene of the accident. The list of killed and injured now stands:-- § KILLED. Mrs Ngaire Pearl Rowe, aged 20, Severn Street, Upper Hutt. Miss Eva Ryrie, aged 25, daughter of Mr and Mrs D. Ryrie, Martin Street, Upper Hutt. Mr P. G’.Thomas, Beth Street, Trentham. PROGRESS OF PATIENTS SOME LEAVE HOSPITAL. ARRANGEMENTS FOR INQUIRY. (’Ey Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Most of the patients injured in the derailment near Haywards yesterday have left hospital. Those seriously injured are reported to be making satisfactory progress. The date of the inquiry is not yet ascertainable. An independent board will be appointed by the Minister of Railways under Section 63 of the Railways Act, 1926, and it will be left to the board to' arrange the procedure in connection with the holding of a public inquiry.
