FIFTH ARMY
ABOUT TO ATTACK HILL POSITIONS .NORTH OF THE GARIGLIANO. MONTGOMERY THROWING IN TANKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 7. The Columbia Broadcasting system’s Algiers correspondent reports that units of the Fifth Army have by-passed Mignano and are steadily advancing along the Appian Way. The Fifth Army is expected to launch a full-scale attack against enemy positions in the Aurunci Hills north of the Garigliano, which British patrols have already crossed, says the British United Press Algiers correspondent. The on the right wing of the Fifth Army’s front have pushed on beyond Venafro toward the next objective—Cassino, 20 miles to Ihe north-west, but the way to there leads through a narrow valley, which means that the high ground on either side must first be secured. The Eighth Army is also continuing its drive northward from Vasto, where General Montgomery has now thrown in major tank forces.
