MADE BY ALLIED ARMIES IN ITALY
In Mountain Area and Coastal Sectors TOWNS TAKEN IN CENTRAL APENNINESEIGHTH ARMY ADVANCING ON RIVER SANGRO LONDON, November 7. In Italy the Allied armies continue to gain ground. Several towns have been captured m tne central Apennines. Une of them stands several miles north of iserma ana another on onA of the lew railways traversing the mountain region. Further east ifigiitfi Army units, following on the capture of the port of Vasto, on the Adriatic coast, are reported to be aoout halfway between the River lugno ana the River Sungro, oh which the enemy is expected to niaxe his next defensive stand. ‘liie enemy continues to bring up fresh aivisions in an effort to halt tne Allied advance, rhe latest enemy division identified is the ninth known to be opposing the Allies on the Italian irone. A correspondent says mere are growing signs mat the enemy troops are beginning to feel rattled. imemy road communications are menaced by further advances by American units of the Fifth Army in the region of the iortihed town of iYiignano, which has been bypassed. Allied air operations yesterday ranged all along and well behind the battieiront, Tne enemy for once was stung into an attempt to reply. At least four of his aircraft were destroyed. No Allied machines were lost.
