Mrs J. Read. Gisborne, is the guest of her sister, Mrs A. W. McKenzie, Renall Street, Masterton. Miss Rhodes (South Island) is the guest of Mrs H. Mackenzie Douglas, Pownall Street, Masterton. The death occurred at Wellington on Saturday of Mrs Florence Juno, wife of Mr James A. ’Juno, of Featherston, at the age of 60 years. The Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, who underwent an operation in a Wellington private hospital nine days ago to open an internal abscess was reported by the Deputy-Prime Minister, Mr Nash, last night as continuing to progress very well. Mr T. C. Brash, Wellington, was unanimously elected moderator- designate at the Presbyterian Assembly in Dunedin. Mr Brash is the second layman to receive . this honour. Next year's assembly will be held in Hastings.
Wairarapa service men who were previously reported prisoners of war and now repatriated and safe in Egypt are:—Pvt. William G. Wilson (Masterton), W.O. II James A. Yule (Carterton), Pvt. Charles F. G. Rosson (Masterton), Pvt. Robert P. Brice (Greytown), Pvt. Trevor H. B. Turley (Martinborough), Pvt. Leonard F. Turley (Martinborough), Pvt. Dan Wesneski (Masterton), and L/Sgt. Leslie G. P. Whyte (Masterton). The New Zeaalnd Farmers’ Union has decided to nominate Mr K. J. Holyoake, M.P. for Pahiatua, as one of two New Zealand representatives at a conference of Empire primary producers to be held in Canada in December or early in January. In announcing this decision the president of the union, Mr W. W. Mulholland, stated that the invitation was received from Canada the week before last and that the union had asked the Farmers’ Federation to nominate the other representative. Prior to her wedding on Saturday Miss Dawn Carstens, of Masterton, was tendered a most enjoyable “gift evening” in the Savage Club rooms. The hostesses were Mesdames F. Peterson, D. Duncan, N. Fleming, J. F. Roberts, D. A. McMillan, S. Jenkins and F. J. Traynor. The rooms were artistically decorated with cherry blossom and the supper tables were also tastefully decorated. Dancing was enjoyed. Mr JGallagher played the violin and Aircraftman Ronald Gilbert sang. A savoury supper was served.
