POWERFUL ATTACKS

ON WEST GERMAN CITIES MADE BY UNITED STATES BOMBERS. OTHER STRONG FORCES RAID FRANCE. LONDON, November 5. Gelsinkirchen and Munster were the targets attacked in Western Germany today by a powerful force of American heavy bombers said to be as large as that which blasted Wilhelmshaven on Wednesday—a total of 1,000 bombers and escorting fighters. Industrial targets in Gelsinkirchen and marshalling yards at Munster were bombed heavily. Twenty-eight German fighters were shot down. 'Simultaneously the skies over France were filled with Allied medium bombers and fighters attacking various targets. Ten heavy bombers, two medium bombers and five fighters are missing from all these operations. London had another alert last night. Bombs fell in several districts. One raider was destroyed.
