ACCIDENTAL DEATH
OFFICER KILLED ON PAREMATA BRIDGE.
CORONER’S VERDICT.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, This Day
That death was caused by head and body injuries was the Coroner's verdict in regard to Lieutenant John Alexander Lumley, aged 56, who died in the Wellington Hospital on September 4, after being involved in an accident with a U.S. Marine Corps truck on the Paremata Bridge. The Coroner commented that it was blowing hard and raining at the time of the accident and that the fact that Lieutenant Lumley was slightly hard c.f hearing had contributed to the accident. The probability was that he was unaware of the approach of the truck while he was crossing the road, and that he became confused. The Coroner commended the driver of the truck for the manner in which he had given his evidence.
