MINISTER TO RUSSIA
AUSTRALIAN APPOINTMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, November 5. On the dole for two years during the depression, Mr J. Maloney, M.L.C., has been appointed Australian Minister to the Soviet. Mr Maloney, who is aged 42, is president of the New South Wales Trades and Labour Council. “I feel that the advent of the new Minister, a vigorous and trusted Australian trades union leader, will further strengthen the cordial relations between Australia and Russia,” said the Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Evatt.
Australia’s first. Minister to the Soviet, Mr Slater, was forced by ill- health to relinquish his post.
