REHABILITATION MEETING OF COMMITTEE (“Times-Age” Special.) At the initial meeting of the Rehabilitation Committee (Featherston Centre) those present were Messrs B. Roberts, M.P., Q. Donald (local authorities’ representative), G. W. Brandon, C. C. Kenward (organised Labour representative), N. C. C. Shepherd (business or farming representative), Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford (W.W.S.A. representative) and Mr J. W. Holland (secretary). Mr McDonald, of the State Advances Department, and. Mr G. F. Scandrett, National Service Department, were also in attendance in an advisory capacity. Mr N. C. C. Shepherd was appointed chairman. It was decided that Mr G. W. Brandon be appointed to represent the R. in place of Mr H. Lawson, who owing to sickness would be unable to act. ) Mr McDonald gave a full explanation of the activities of the board and Mr Scandrett (National Service Department) answered questions respecting the activities of his department. Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., addressed the meeting explaining the Government’s intentions, and offering his help when required. The following sub-committees were set up: Farming interests, Messrs Q. Donald and G. W. Brandon; loans for tools, furniture, business loans, housing loans, Mr Kenward and Mrs D. H. S. Riddiford. The chairman is to be exofficio on all committees. It was decided to meet on the third Monday in each month. Home and School Association. The Home and School Association held a very successful dance in the Town Hall last evening. The music was supplied by Mrs Ashton’s orchestra, and Mr C. Buck was M.C. The Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr L. Wall and Miss L. Neilson, and Miss F. Donald and partner. A competition was won by Mrs J. Perfect. Personal. Mr K. Matenga, Pukio, has left on a visit to Otaki. Ladies’ Guild Meeting, The St. John’s Church Kahutara - Pahautea Ladies’ Guild met on Tuesday afternoon in the Pahautea Hall, Mrs D. C. Collins presiding. A successful bring and buy stall was held, and the proceeds are to be devoted to buying Christmas comforts for St. Barnabas’s Baby Home at Khandallah. The Rev. J. R. Higgs gave an interesting talk on his experiences in a flying boat from Hong Kong to Sydney, and was accorded a vote of thanks. The Guild will go into recess till March, after having experienced a very successful year. The hostesses were Mesdames Lea, Garrett and Playle, Proposed Kahutara Gathering. At a meeting held in the Kahutara School, there was a large attendance of parents and settlers, when it was decided to hold a “gala day” on November 27, when the judging of calves and lambs will take place. COSY THEATRE “THE BLACK SHEEP OF WHITEHALL.” Tonight the outstanding comedy, “The Black Sheep of Whitehall,” will be shown. The chief role is taken by Will Hay, and it is a picture which provides an excellent tonic in these war stricken days. “The Mayor of 44th Street,” the associate feature, is an excellent drama featuring George Murphy and Anne Shirley.
