TURKEY & THE ALLIES

HELP THAT WOULD SHORTEN . WAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, November 4. Stressing the significance of Mr Eden’s talks with the Turkish Foreign Minister in Cairo, several London political persons point out that while some of the United Nations want Turkey to join actively in the fight against Germany there are ways in which she might help the Allies short of entering the war with her armed forces. For instance, granting the use of Turkish airfields and the right of passage for Allied ships through the Dardanelles might shorten the war. Such action would be similar to that of Portugal in giving the use of the Azores for airfields and ports.
