Carter Homes. Among the many benefactions conferred upon the people of the Wairarapa by the late Charles Rooking Carter, the Homes for men situated in Moreton Road, Carterton, will do more to keep his name alive than all the rest of his munificent gifts. Year after year the ease and comfort that old age appreciates are available in this institution to men of the Wairarapa, and even beyond it if there is a vacancy. The management committee of the Home is the Mayor of Carterton, the incumbent of the Church of England in Carterton and three borough council- < lors elected annually at the fit’s t meet- ■ ing of a newly elected council. Its object is the gratuitous support of old men of good repute and of not less than 65 years of age, who have resided in a certain area of the Wairarapa district for at least five years prior to the date of application. Men of these qualifications residing outside of this area and paying the sum of £lOO to the institution may be accepted by the committee if there is a vacancy. The only charge made on these men from their old age pension is the sum of 10s a month for i their funeral expenses. Radio, car and t library facilities are provided and every t comfort possible is provided for their i benefit. Regular supervision is made by c Ihe committee and every care used for ' the good health and comfort of the in- v mates. The master of the Home, while r exercising the supervision that this z kind of institution requires, has the * happiness of the inmates as his first 1: consideration. / n The. presentation made at the Borough, t; Chambers on Monday morning was to 0 L.C.I. C. R. Porter, not Rex Porter as c stated.
