GOLDEN WEDDING

MR AND MRS W. DAVIES. Mr and Mrs W. Davies, who were married on October- 31, 1893, celebrated their golden wedding last Saturday when they entertained relatives and friends from all parts of New Zealand at a wedding breakfast held in the Orange Hall. The Rev. G. H. Goodman presided. “I’ll Walk Beside You” was sung by Mrs H. Speight during the' cutting of the wedding cake, which was made by a daughter and beautifully decorated by Mr R. Reeves. ' The health of the bride and bridegroom of fifty years ago was proposed by Mr E. Reeves (grandson) in the absence of their eldest grandson, Able Seaman W. L. Gibbs. Mr Ron. Davies replied on behalf of his parents. Other toasts honoured were “Visitors” and “Absent Friends.” Mr Goodman spoke of the honour and esteem in which Mr and Mrs Davies were held by all who knew them. Other speakers were Major ’Stone (Salvation Army), Mrs Tyler (Carterton), Mr P. Davies (Hamua), and Mr H. Sutton (Wellington). A very enjoyable time was spent by those present. A number of telegrams and messages of goodwill were received by Mr and Mrs Davies.
