Ration Books.
The Masterton Post Office has issued 12,780 new ration books to date. It is expected that some 15,000 books will eventually be issued. Old Landmark Sold. Tattersall’s Horse Bazaar, Christchurch, has been sold for £35,000 by the trustees in the estate of the late Mr Leicester Matson to Mr F. S; Wilding, acting for a purchaser whose name has not been disclosed. It is understood that the purchaser’s intention is to replace the present building with a modern one when conditions permit. The Horse Bazaar is a relic of far off days of a generation when the people of Christchurch used to hire landaus, complete with liveried coachmen and footmen, from one of the biggest livery and bait stables in New Zealand. Tattersall’s was connected with the family business of H. Matson and Company for many years, but long before that it was a meeting place for farmers when the saleyards were in that quarter of the town.
