Army circles expect General Eisenhower will return to the United States, when the Italian campaign nears its end, to direct the office of the Chief of Staff, coincidently with General Marshall’s departure foi’ London, says the “Army and Navy Journal.” The .service organ says General Alexander is the logical successor to General Eisenhower. It adds that General Eisenhower is familial’ with the Pacific as well as the European theatre, since he served under General MacArthur in the Philippines before Pearl Harbour. “It would therefore appear,” the journal adds, “that he has been specially prepared to serve Washington and help the President in the settlement of questions of high strategy.”
