EVADING ACTION

JAPANESE MAIN FLEET. VIEWS OF AMERICAN ADMIRAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, October 28 Vice-Admiral John W. Greenslade, Commandant of the Twelfth Naval District declared at San Francisco that the prudence of the Japanese Grand Fleet in failing to interfere with the recent attacks on Wake Islands suggests that possibility that the Allied tactics of attrition in the Pacific had won advantages far beyond our expectations for this time. He added that if Japan is badly hurt and. proposes to withhold its major fleet to defend home waters, we shall soon have the mandated islands and other enemy strongholds under direct siege and thence project our operations into the China Sea.
