VICTORIOUS DRIVE
* RUSSIANS SWEEPING ACROSS SOUTHERN UKRAINE Thrusting Battered German Divisions Towards Crimea SUBURBS OF KRIVOI ROG ENTERED ON THREE SIDES FURTHER PROGRESS MADE IN WHITE RUSSIA 11 k LONDON, October 29. " Red Army is keeping up the weight and speed of its drive 'across the Southern Ukraine, where it is sweeping the battered German divisions before it towards the Lower Dnieper and thh Crimea. This is the third day of the big Russian break through and the German retreat is now tending to become a rout. JThe Russian tactics are to keep the Germans on the move, with flying columns coming’ in ahead of the main body and disorganising the enemy’s retreat. The Russians are fighting in the suburbs of Krivoi Rog, on three sides of that city and railway junction. The latest are that a big body of the enemy is moving south-westward from Melitopol, with the intention of making a stand at the head of the Crimea. The speed and weight of the Red Army are not giving the Germans any chance to reform. Inside the Dnieper bend the German forces are being steadily squeezed. Last night, the Red Army was reported to be 40 miles south-west of Dnepropetrovsk and to be working towards a railway line running north, The Russians are also pushing on on a new front towards the rear of the Germans. Enemy counter-attacks are growing in intensity. At the same time the Russians are increasing their threat to a lateral railway and were within striking distance of it last night. In White Russia, Soviet forces have made more progress on each side of Gomel and are keeping up their pressure in the Vitebsk sector.
