MASS EXPULSION
OF GERMAN INVADERS RETREAT IN PLACES A FLIGHT RUSSIANS 45 MILES WEST OF MELITOPOL (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, October 28. The Russians are now 45 miles west of Melitopol, says Reuter's Moscow correspondent, and the retreat of the heavily battered German units across the open steppes in some places has become a flight. The Russians’ fast-moving, mobile columns are hitting the Germans from all sides, carving up communications and threatening the retreat roads westward. The “Pravda,” commenting on the Russian break through, says: “A mass expulsion of the German invader at present is going on as our offensive continues. Along the entire front the Red Army is marching to new and greater victories.” GRAVE SITUATION RUMANIANS PREPARING TO GO HOME (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, October 28. The Exchange Telegraph Agency’s Zurich correspondent says the Rumanians east of the Dniester have been ordered to prepare for a removal to Rumania, in view of the grave military situation.
