PEOPLE'S DAY

GOOD MUSTER AT CARTERTON SHOWGROUNDS In Spite of Unsettled Weather GRAND PARADE OF STOCK AND RING COMPETITIONS FURTHER CHAMPIONSHIP & OTHER AWARDS Unsettled weather continued today for People’s Day of the Wairarapa Show and in consequence, the Carterton Showgrounds were rather wet underfoot, but in spite of these unfavourable conditions there was a large attendance of the public. A full programme of ring competitions and the grand parade of stock, besides the attractions provided by the sideshows and exhibits of various kinds, kept the public well entertained. Musical items were played during the afternoon by the Cartertoil Municipal Band. The judging of horses and dogs took place today and the outstanding cattle classes were also completed. There was a large attendance of the public at the night session last evening when Highland dancing events were held in front of the grandstand. One or two showers occurred during the evening but the conditions were on the whole quite pleasant.

The gate takings yesterday amounted to £36 3s, as compared with £35 17s 6d in 1941. For the night show the gate takings were £63 19s 6d, against £6O 8s 6d in 1941. The Meat and Wool Cup, for the best registered purebred beef animal, was won by D. G. Grant, Dannevirke.
