BY AMERICAN BOMBERS. ON JAPANESE IN BURMA AND INDO-CHINA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright' CHUNGKING, October 26. General Stilwell’s communique says: “Liberators struck heavy blows at the Japanese in Burma and Indo-China, supporting Chinese ground troops. Many bombs were dropped on Htawgaw, 75 miles northeast of Myitkyana. Twenty-five tons of bombs were successfully dropped at Cobi, where there was some flak, but no enemy aircraft were encountered. All the American aircraft returned safely.” j The official Tokio radio stated that 19 American planes raided Haiphong, Indo-China, damaging buildings near the railway. In China severe fighting is reported from West Yunnan, on wild and precipitous slopes along the upper Salween River, where the Japanese are trying to effect a crossing, states a Chungking message. On the western bank, the Chinese are fighting desperately for two bridgeheads and shelling Japanese positions on the east bank.
