SOVIET OFFENSIVE IN DNIEPER BEND Break Through at New Point Reported SUBURBS OF KRIVOI ROG ENTERED GERMAN GARRISON GETTING SUPPLIES BY AIR LONDON, October 27. A new Red Army break through is reported on the Dnieper. Soviet forces have advanced six to eight miles and liberated 90 towns and villages. More progress has been made by ’Russian forces on both sides of the Dnieper bend. An advance of four to five miles is reported south-west of Dnepropetrovsk. The Russians have several more places in the direction of Krivoi Rog ' and one report states that they are fighting in the suburbs and have occupied a number of suburban railway stations. Earlier messages stated that ammunition and other supplies greatly needed by the Germans in Krivoi Rog were being dropped by parachute and that Russian fighters were taking toll of the enemy transport planes engaged in this service. North-east of Vitebsk Soviet forces have advanced four to six miles and freed more than 50 places. Moscow reports that the Germans are stubbornly resisting in the Krivoi Rog direction and are throwing in fresh tank forces, including the 24th German Tank Division from Italy. In some parts of the Dnieper bend area the Germans are in full retreat under a terrific bombardment. The Russians are reported to have taken immense quantities of booty, guns, mortars, machine-guns, locomotives and wagons, storehouses of munitions and food, and an enormous assortment of other equipment.
