HEAVILY DEFEATED

ATTACK BY GERMAN E-BOATS ON CONVOY OFF EAST ANGLIA. FOUR OF THE ENEMY CRAFT DESTROYED. LONDON, October 26. A strong attack by German E-boats on a convoy off the coast of East Anglia on Sunday night and yesterday morning was frustrated by the Royal Navy, according to an announcement by the Admiralty. The E-boats, numbering about 30, suffered severe losses. In a five-hour encounter, four E-boats were destroyed and several damaged. Groups of E-boats converged on the shipping route. One group was attacked by a destroyer and another by a force of motor-gunboats. Later, the destroyer Worcester attacked with gunfire one E-boal which blew up and the destroyer Mackay hit another. Meanwhile another force of our motorgunboats had manoeuvred into position to attack the E-boats, one of which blew up. • All our forces returned.
