Just before the war an Englishman stayed with an Italian family in Italy, g writer in the “Manchester Guardian” states. Before the meals grace was said solemnly by the ten-year-old boy of the family. It went: “Thank Mussolini for this good meal; thank God for Mussolini.” After hearing this grace a few times the visitor said to the boy: “But, sonny, there will come a time when Mussolini will die, or he will resign, or something of that sort. What will you say then?” The boy was taken aback at this question, but after a second or two’s thought he replied with the utmost seriousness: “Well, I expect we shall just say ‘Thank God’.”
